Hey everybody this week was really good! We didn't find a whole lot of people to teach BUT we are working a lot with some families we have found. When they get baptized I will share their stories. So I've got a couple minutes, so I thought I would share the stories of those who have been baptized recently.
ROBERNY was the little Haitian boy that was baptized. He moved to Chile my first week here and his mom is a member in our branch. When he arrived we immediately started to teach him and we realize that.....he speaks no Spanish!!! SO from there we got to teach him and ask his mom to translate. Man I'll tell you I have loved that little boy from the first time I met him. There's such a light in his eyes and he is happy to be a part of a loving family that is our ward and I am extremely grateful for his mom who helped us get him to be baptized. He is still going to primary and learning Spanish little by little but is getting better and better day by day!
Jimmy and Willy are the next two Haitians that were baptized. Jimmy was the first one to find his way to church. He stumbled in one Sunday, and he loved what he saw. Although he did not speak any Spanish whatsoever, (14 days in Chile when we met) we talked to him through google translate (oof) and accepted for s to teach him a little bit. In the first lesson we planned with him, he brought his buddy, WILLY. They both went little by little learning more about the gospel with the help of Roberny's mom and our little french/creole. In that first lesson I was able to testify to them of the plan of salvation in F R E N C H and oh boy was it hard but it was en edifying experience and something I won't forget any time soon. They both have that same light in their eyes and are doing very well, and we have a gospel principles class in church that is taught in CREOLE every week, and even though they only understand completely the first hour of church, they love to be there with us and to feel the spirit of the other meetings. aka those are my freaking boys
Gloria is the last person that we baptized recently. Gloria was a part of a part member family, and was almost baptized a while ago by other missionaries but she had a heart attack. So when I got here to Lampa we had her pick her own baptismal date and she made it !! It was great to teach her and see her testimony grow. Shortly after her baptism, (like three days after) she was overwhelmed by honestly giant family problems that came out of nowhere, and felt lost and was crying for days on end. We were very afraid for her and her family, but we shared with her to trust in God and to keep him close. We taught with D&C 8 about the Holy Ghost and she was confirmed last week. She is an example of the way the gospel can CHANGE us and make us better. I love the Lord and the way He can improve us and show us our potential, and more than anything the way He shows us that we are STRONG and CAPABLE of anything. The mission is marvelous and something I will never forget, and I am so glad to be here.
Plus, I got a new companion this week, they made my companion ASSISTANT to President yesterday so now I am with Elder Santander from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I got to have a sleepover in the office last night and being assistant looks like it'll be a lot of work, but Elder Whitby will kill it. Love you guys,
Elder McCurdy
